Black Family Start Gourmet Popcorn Brand: Popcorn Munchies
Shaunese Alexander and her four children — Destiny, Trinity, Serenity, and Joshua launched Popcorn Munchies, a gourmet popcorn brand according to Black Business. The Maryland-based company’s most popular popcorn flavor is caramelized pecan.
The business began when Joshua realized his love of eating popcorn while watching movies at home. Shaunese later decided to buy a popcorn machine so that they could make popcorn similar to the popcorn at the movie theaters. Soon after, the family began experimenting with recipes and found one they all enjoyed, caramel. “It was so good,” Shaunese told the news website, “that we decided to share it with neighbors, friends, and family. They loved it so much that we began receiving more and more requests to make it.”
Then once the pandemic started, the children said they had no other choice but to stay home, but their mother didn’t let this time go to waste. Shaunese encouraged her children to learn the entire popcorn making process and start their own gourmet popcorn brand.
Soon after starting the brand, it started to get orders nationwide and local orders as well.
