Alpha Phi Alpha’s Dr. Cornel West Announces Third-Party Bid for President
Dr. Cornell West announced today that he will be running for president in the upcoming election with the People’s Party.
“I enter in the quest for truth, I enter in the quest for justice, and the presidency is just one vehicle to pursue that truth and justice — what I’ve been trying to do all of my life,” Dr. West stated in the campaign video he published to social media.
A scholar and activist, Dr. West has held positions at Yale, Princeton and Harvard. He is currently a professor of philosophy at Union Theological Seminary.
According to his campaign website, Dr. West’s platforms include getting money out of politics and banning corporate lobbying, enact term limits in Congress and switching to hand-counted paper ballots, Medicare for all and abolishing medical debt, protecting the environment, expanding civil liberties, disbanding NATO and banning nuclear weapons globally.
According to the New York Times, the People’s Party is a third party led by, Nick Brana, a former 2016 campaign staff member for Senator Bernie Sanders.
