Actor Anthony Mackie to build movie studio in New Orleans East
Marvel’s newest “Captain America” star and New Orleans native Anthony Mackie has reportedly bought 20 acres of land in New Orleans East with the plan of building a new movie studio, according to sources who informed The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate of the news. Sources say the purchase of the land was finalized last Friday, according to land records. The land is reportedly right off of the I-10 Service Road and Read Boulevard.
The negotiation for the land has reportedly been going on for months. Mackie plans to put his producation company, East Studios LLC, at the facility. He is reportedly looking to buy even more space nearby.
Mackie a graduate of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), has always had a close relationship to the New Orleans.
The Hollywood acting mainstay, has moved into producing films like “The Banker” and “Outside the Wire.”
Mackie’s investment in the area could provide a continued boost to New Orleans’ burgeoning film industry, which took a massive hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
