North Carolina Superior Court Judge Jeffery B. Foster, who refuses to release footage of police killing Andrew Brown Jr., also believes that George Zimmerman shouldn’t have been charged in the killing Trayvon Martin in 2012.

The judgment’s sentiment was exposed when The Root uncovered his previous Facebook posts.

“George Zimmerman was found not guilty of all charges,” the 2013 post states. “He should have never been charged. The jury did the right thing. Fox News got it right again. And Nancy Grace has proven once again what an idiot she is. I’m now watching a bitter prosecutor rail and then deny it was about race. Shameful to the end.”

As Blavity previously reported, Foster cited concerns for the safety of people seen in the clips when he refused to release the body camera footage of the Black man who was killed by North Carolina deputies while being detained on April 21. The judge, who mandated the footage remain out of public view for at least 30 days, also said his decision was based on information in the videos that could potentially harm the investigation. 

“The release at this time would create a serious threat to the fair, impartial and orderly administration of justice,” Foster said.

An independent autopsy revealed that Brown was shot five times, including once in the back of the head. 

“This, in fact, was a fatal wound to the back of Mr. Brown’s head as he was leaving the site trying to evade being shot at by these particular law enforcement officers that we believe did nothing but a straight up execution,” family lawyer Wayne Kendall said during a press conference. 

The family, who was able to see a small portion of the video, said that’s not enough.

“We got a little bit of evidence, but that wasn’t enough for us,” Brown’s son, Khalil Ferebee, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “We’re heartbroken.”

In one of Foster’s more recent posts, the judge appears to be taking a jab at critics who oppose Georgia’s new law, which requires voters to have identification to vote by mail.

“Hypocrisy,” Foster wrote in his post, sharing an announcement from a Coca-Cola event which requires ID to verify registration for the program.
