(BPRW) A World Cup of artistic expression

A profile of Annick Duvivier

(Black PR Wire) MIAMI – The arrival of FIFA World Cup 26™ is creating a world of opportunity for a group of South Florida artists as Greater Miami and Miami Beach welcomes fans from across the globe to cheer on their teams during the tournament.

Welcoming visitors, Miami International Airport (MIA) has debuted a new art exhibition, Beyond the Pitch: Artists in Their Field, featuring the work of 14 local artists who use soccer as a creative lens to explore themes of community, culture, unity and human connection.

One of those selected for the exhibit is Annick Duvivier, a Haitian mixed-media painter, benefactor of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (GMCVB) Tourism Business Enhancement Program and a GMCVB industry partner since 2020.

Her work for the exhibition, titled United by Soccer (image below), is an acrylic and mixed-media collage on canvas. Describing her inspiration, Duvivier said, “Haiti has participated for the first time in over 50 years, and I wanted to honor them and soccer. So, I decided to create a silhouette of the players in active movements – with pink and blue layers that serve to unify the communities. The images refIect people of various ethnicities – Asian, Black, everyone – all people unified by soccer.”

When asked how it feels to be one of the artists participating in the MIA exhibition, Duvivier said, “It feels incredible. I am honored and proud and have worked so hard. Being a part of this experience with the World Cup at MIA is unbelievably humbling.”

A native of Haiti, Duvivier’s practice centers on mixed-media painting, installation and collage, exploring themes of identity, memory, nature and the human body. She began her career by taking painting classes with the renowned Haitian artist, Ralph Allen. She completed Fine Arts studies at Altos de Chavón School of Design in the Dominican Republic in 2009 and followed up with a BFA in Visual Arts from Miami International University of Art and Design in 2019.

“As MIA welcomes millions of visitors traveling to World Cup matches in Miami-Dade County and throughout North America, I’m thrilled to see the works of local artists like Annick Duvivier energizing our airport and engaging both our customers and employees in the global excitement of the tournament,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Thanks to talented artists like Annick, travelers from around the world have the opportunity to experience the richness and diversity of our vibrant local arts community in the soccer capital of the world.”

The GMCVB’s Connie Kinnard, senior vice president, multicultural tourism and development said, “The greatest barometer of success is seeing the continued growth and opportunities created by the GMCVB’s Art of Black Miami program, which supports artists and assists them in finding places to exhibit.”

Select solo exhibitions and examples of Duvivier’s work shown across Miami-Dade County include “Poetic Botanic” at the Angler’s Hotel (2025–2026); “In Between Dreams and Reality” at the InterContinental Miami (2025); “A Space for Dreaming” at Miami Dade College’s North Campus Library (2024); and public art installations and murals at the Little Haiti Caribbean Marketplace (2025) and Fruit and Spice Park (2025).

Duvivier added, “I have to give a special thank you to MIA for producing the exhibit, “Beyond the Pitch,” and I’d like to congratulate all 14 of the other artists for their great work. Also, I have to give a very special thanks to the GMCVB and Art of Black Miami for supporting my career. They hold a very special place in my heart. We have the power to tell positive stories – we just have to show people what we can do. Our work, our talent and our art speak for themselves.”

The GMCVB’s Tourism Business Enhancement Program (TBE) advocates, supports and strengthens the economic sustainability and access of multicultural communities and heritage-related businesses in Miami-Dade County. It helps Miami-Dade small businesses grow and thrive through training, professional development, technical assistance and educational resources. TBE connects businesses with GMCVB partners, vendor and referral opportunities, and marketing support, while building public-private partnerships, strengthening tourism districts and championing community advocacy and outreach. The program also includes the Art of Black Miami platform. Learn more at ArtofBlackMiami.com.
