(Black PR Wire) Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State University Department of Athletics has announced that Fayetteville-native and NBA standout Dennis Smith, Jr. and the Two-Six Project will be the title sponsors of the McDougal-Scurry Golf Tournament.

Dennis Smith, Jr. expressed his excitement and stated, “Fayetteville State has always been a safe space for me. I’m thrilled to support this event and continue my partnership with the athletics department. It’s important for me to continue to support my hometown and home HBCU to give other athletes a safe space!”

Grant Bennett, founder and president of The Two-Six Project, emphasized the importance of investing in HBCUs. Bennett stated, “There is no better one than Fayetteville State. We grew up working out over here and playing our youth championship games here. Dennis still practices here. We definitely wanted to find a way to give back to home and do it in a way that supports the athletic program here that gives back to us in so many ways.”

The McDougal-Scurry Golf Tournament will take place at the Gates Four Golf and Country Club on Friday, September 6. The event aims to raise essential funds for student-athlete scholarships and will bring together golf enthusiasts, local businesses, and community leaders.

The tournament will include a 9 am shotgun start following a 7:30 am registration and continental breakfast. Foursomes will compete for the top three awards and course contests, with an awards luncheon featuring door prizes.

Interested golfers can register online at fsubroncos.com/golf.

Old Hillside Bourbon, renowned for its rich history and heritage and premium bourbon whiskey, will transform the 19th hole into an unforgettable experience for all attendees and guests.

“Old Hillside Bourbon Company is pleased to sponsor the 19th hole for the McDougal-Scurry Gold Tournament,” adds Courtney Tucker, Co-Founder and Managing Director. “Enjoy samples of Old Hillside’s finest selections, including limited-edition releases!”

Raymond McDougal, a legendary figure in Fayetteville State Athletics, served the Broncos for 44 years in various roles, including as head men’s golf coach. McDougal led his Broncos to great success, participating in seven NCAA Division II Super Regionals and earning their first NCAA Tournament berth in 2009.

James ‘Jim’ Scurry, who worked at Fayetteville State University from 1988 through 2004, was praised as FSU’s greatest ambassador for his efforts in building relationships with Fort Bragg and community leaders. He is renowned for creating and popularizing the FSU student chant “Attitude Check! Bronco Pride”.

Sponsorship opportunities are available and interested sponsors can visit fsubroncos.com/golf or contact Mike King at (910) 672-2565 or via email at mjking@uncfsu.edu.
