The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) announced today that Shavon Arline-Bradley has been hired to serve as the organization’s first president and chief executive officer.

Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley is an ordained minister and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She serves as president & chairman of Delta for Women in Action, a 501(c)4 organization, the vice-chair of the NAACP Board of Directors Health Committee, and the immediate past co-chair of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., National Social Action Commission.

Her new position as president and chief executive officer of the National Council of Negro Women comes as the organization has changed its governance structure to function more effectively. The change happed at the NCNW 60th Biennial National Convention held in December 2022 when assembled delegates passed bylaws to allow the restructuring of the organization which was founded in 1935. “This is the first time NCNW has designated separate leadership roles electing a board chair and hiring a president/CEO serving in a salaried position,” a press release issued by NCNW stated.

The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) is a federation of over 330 campus and community-based sections and 32 national women’s organizations. Led by the pioneering efforts of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, who founded the organization in 1935, NCNW has been at the forefront of advocating for and empowering women of African descent, their families, and communities.

Dr. Dorothy Height, who served as the  National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. from 1947 to l956, famously served as the president of NCNW for over 50 years. Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley, her sorority sister, will now follow in her footsteps by leading the organization.

Lois Keith, newly elected board chair of NCNW. “She will exceed expectations because these are the areas in which NCNW would like to continue, as we bridge the generational gap.”
