Atlanta doctor, pharmacists plead guilty to running pill mill
A former Atlanta gynecologist and two pharmacists plead guilty to federal charges involving a pill mill according to WSB-TV.
Prosecutors said Dr. Anthony Mills was writing prescriptions for opioids, like oxycodone, morphine and Percocet, to drug dealers and addicts he actually treated. The prosecutors said some of the prescriptions he wrote were in the names of people whose had their identities stolen or had already passed away..
When the “patients” got their prescription from Mills’ home, they would fill them at one of two pharmacies owned by licensed pharmacist Raphael Ogunsusi prosecutors alleged. They claimed Ogunsusi knew that Mills’ prescriptions weren’t legitimate and were too large to be considered “medically appropriate,” however, would fill them anyway.
The news station’s Tyisha Fernandes went to the door of Mills’ Atlanta home after it was raided in December 2021. However, he did not answer. Neighbors told the news station he moved out after the raid.
“It was a catastrophe that morning,” neighbor Corey Blowe said. “It was like military-type federal agents and what not. They came and you just heard the sirens blaring and they pulled up right there with their big tanker truck.”
Prosecutors say that Ogunsusi accepted large payments for filling the prescriptions and would receive up to $900 for one oxycodone prescription and $500 for one Percocet prescription.
