Basic Black | Black Cryptocurrency: Can it create generational wealth for people of color?
Since its creation in 2009, cryptocurrency technology is disrupting the way we exchange money around the world. In September 2021, El Salvador became the first country to approve Bitcoin as legal tender. A growing number of investors are seizing the opportunity to get in on the ground floor on the next digital goldmine by risking what they can afford to lose and tracking the volatility of cryptocurrency. Tonight at 7:30pm on GBH, our program will provide the details and discuss the rise in Black and Brown people investing in cryptocurrency. But what exactly is cryptocurrency….and is it truly a path to acquiring generational wealth for people of color?
Joining our discussion panel: Teri Williams from OneUnited Bank and BECMA Board chair, Reuben Youngblom from the Digital Currency Initiative at the MIT Media Lab, Cleve Mesidor with the National Policy Network of Women of Color in Blockchain and Public Policy Advisor for the Blockchain Association and Dr. Shalair Armstrong, educator and member of The Black Bitcoin Billionaire Group.
