Texas woman charged with murder after ‘falsely’ claims self-defense after fatally shooting Black homeless woman

A Texas woman has been charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a homeless woman outside of a grocery store late last week.

Harris Country Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on Twitter on July 26, saying 34-year-old Christine Fesus was in custody after admitting to shooting a 36-year-old Black homeless woman Deandrea Citizen on July 25, in the parking lot of a Food Town grocery store according to KHOU 11.

Fesus told police officials that she was walking her dog when she was “attacked or aggressively approached” by Citizen. The woman, who is white says that’s when she opened fire, shooting the victim at least once.

Court documents obtained by the Houston Chronicle said that Fesus went home to her apartment located behind the business. Once she hid her clothes and her firearm and changing her clothes, she called authorities to notify them of the shooting. However, investigators said that according to a surveillance video and multiple witnesses identified Fesus as the shooter. The woman was walking her dog when she saw Citizen sitting on a curb talking to herself and then shot her. One man who said he saw the shooting and tried to perform CPR on the victim. Once emergency medical services pronounced her dead at the scene.

Another man claiming to be the boyfriend of the deceased woman told authorities that he was lying down while Citizen was talking to herself.

He told cops that’s when Fesus walked up to them “words were exchanged,” and then Fesus fired her handgun. He says when he asked Citizen if she was hit she confirmed before falling to the ground.

There have been discrepancies found in Fesus’ story, who later told cops that Citizen “came at me.” She also told authorities that the woman told her, “There is one of those diseased white people.”

Fesus has been released on a $75,000 bond on Tuesday.
